Tommy's Parent Friendly Awards

Friday 14th March saw the announcement of the 2008
Tommy's Parent Friendly Awards at a star studded bash
at London's Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
Just over half a million votes were cast by parents
up and down the country including Twinsclub members,
and the 18 categories included Best Supermarket, Best
Family Restaurant and Best High Street Retailer. The
ceremony also included the Tommy's Angel award, presented
by Carrie Grant to winner Louise Thorp, who was nominated
by her best friend Lisa Hayes to thank her for her support
during recent IVF treatment.

goes to Elaine Westley (ctd3exw). Elaine recently

Is
it in your water ?
Just where in the UK does have the largest occurence
of twins ? Do you think it could be your area ? To nominate
your area, just send us an email with why you think
your area has a spooky twin thing going on (or a triplet
thing for that matter!).
Lisa writes from Northampton "According to my
specialist Northampton has a very high rate of twin
pregnancy. The street where I live already has five
sets of twins identical and non-identical my identicals
were the sixth!"
Marlyn wrote to say : "I was told 21 years ago
by a girl called Pam Pratt who had twin girls at Harrogate
General Hospital that Harrogate had the largest number
of twins in the UK or maybe Europe or maybe just England
(can't remember) and it was always blamed on the water!
However, having just returned from Portimao in Portugal
we noticed an amazing number of twins of all ages, young
and old"
Update "Would like to support the theory
on Harrogate, each time I go into the town centre I
see several sets of twins ( the last time there were
8 sets) Also at our small rural playgroup they take
up to 24 children a session, on a Friday there are 3
sets of twins attending" Madmum (Jayne, from nr.
Harrogate).

Grand
Designs wants your furniture to totally revamp! Do you
own a piece of furniture that people think is hideous?
Does a member of your family own a design crime? Well
we want them. Send us photographs of the offending item,
we’ll come and pick it up and challenge a top designer
to completely revamp it. You’ll be invited to our live
television show, held between the 4th and 9th of May,
where we’ll reveal the item to you and the audience.

Gecko Productions has a very strong pedigree in making
high quality human interest documentaries. We are currently
looking for adult identical twins who would be interested
in participating in a documentary series for a major
broadcaster. The series would focus on what it is like
to be a twin and would feature a different set of twins

Education for twins
We
are making a documentary series about twins and education.
We are looking to explore the effects of different school
environments on twins' academic and social experience.
This will be an observational series which follows several
families over a period of six months. Do you have strong
opinions on whether twins should go to the same / separate
schools? Are your twins commencing primary / secondary
school this year? Are you considering sending one twin
to private and the other to state school? At this stage
we are looking to speak to parents for research purposes
only and I would be really grateful for your help. Please

Fair Deal For Multiples
Twinsclub is supporting a national campaign to press
for more cash for families with multiple birth children.
The campaign aims to close a "loophole" in the tax credit
system which means parents of multiple birth children
are losing out on hundreds of pounds.
Families with twins, as opposed to two children born
say 18 months apart, are missing out on £545 and families
with triplets or more are being short-changed by more
than £1,000.

Black mark : Today in town (Northampton) I took
the kids for lunch to Mcdonalds. It's recently had refurb
& looks really nice but whoever designed it does
not have children with prams. I got stuck!!! How embarrasing,
in the end the twins sat sideways in the pushchair by
the bin and i had to sit the other side of the table,
you could only just get down the aisle with a single
pram, bad design Mcdonalds Iwill not visit again. Have
put in a complaint to them. I thought shops etc were
supposed to be more child friendly these days! Lisa,
mum to Ryan, Bethany, Riley and Regan.

Gold Star to : Just thought I would like to
nominate Asda, Harrogate for the Gold star as After
several weeks of me and another twin mum asking, begging
and nagging they have got a triple baby & toddler trolley
and a quad toddler trolley ( vital if you have twin
babies and a toddler ). Both trolleys are kept locked
so that they are available only to people that need
one. Thank you Asda, shopping is now a possibility.

Preparing for Twins or Triplets MBF meetings
(if you intend going, but haven't

The Multiple Births Foundation holds
prenatal meetings in London for parents and
grandparents expecting a multiple birth. Healthcare
and other professionals are also welcome to
attend.
Cost - £5 per person
The evenings run from 7.30pm
to 9.30pm, and begin with an illustrated talk
by either the MBF's Director, Jane Denton RGN
RM or Margie Davies RGN RM, the MBF's Midwifery
Liaison Officer. They are followed by question
time with a local twins club. Many of the MBF's
publications will be available for sale.
